Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Expire X ("we", "us") collects when you use the app, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Expire X, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service:

  • Account information. When you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes your email address and any sign-in details (for example, a password or a Google sign-in). We store your user ID and email so we can show your inventory and send reminders.
  • Inventory data. The items you add — product names, categories, expiry and manufacture dates, quantities, units, notes, barcodes, and any photos you attach.
  • Images you scan. Photos of product labels you capture or upload for OCR/AI extraction, and any image you choose to save with an item.
  • Technical data. Standard server and security logs (such as IP address and request metadata) generated by our hosting provider to keep the service running and secure.

2. How we use your information

  • To create and maintain your account and store your inventory.
  • To read product labels and pre-fill item details using OCR and AI.
  • To identify products from a scanned barcode and estimate likely shelf life.
  • To send you expiry reminder emails at 30, 15, 7, 3 and 1 days before an item expires.
  • To secure the service, prevent abuse, and debug problems.

3. Camera and image processing

The barcode and label scanners use your device camera only while you are actively scanning, and only after your browser grants permission. Barcode decoding happens on your device. When you scan a label for OCR, the image is sent to our server and then to Google Gemini to extract the product name, date and category. We do not access your camera in the background, and we do not sell your images.

4. Third-party services

We rely on the following processors, each under their own privacy terms:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management.
  • Supabase — database and image storage. Your rows are protected by row-level security so they are only accessible to your account.
  • Google Gemini — AI extraction of details from label photos and shelf-life estimates.
  • Open Food Facts (and sibling databases) — looked up by barcode number to retrieve public product information. We send only the barcode number.
  • Resend — delivery of reminder emails.
  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use the cookies our authentication provider needs to keep you signed in, and your browser 's local storage to remember your light/dark theme preference. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and inventory data until you delete an item or your account. Deleting an item removes it (and its reminder history) permanently. If you delete your account, your associated data is removed.

7. Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with access controls including database row-level security. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

8. Your rights

You can access, edit or delete your items at any time from within the app. To request export or full deletion of your account data, contact us at tks2005homes@gmail.com.

9. Children

Expire X is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
